CANNABIS MARKET IN POLAND

Historical timeline: Poland is known for being one of the the earliest European countries to begin cultivating Cannabis sativa. Studies show cannabis cultivation in Poland 5,500 years ago and it was certainly being cultivated 1,000 years ago, in the Middle Ages, for fibre and possibly for medicinal use. Cannabis was banned in Poland in the 20th century. They signed on to the 1925 International Opium Convention. In 1930 identified cannabis in legislation as harmful to health. In 1951, Eastern Bloc-era Poland classified cannabis as a narcotic. In subsequent years passed legislation that criminalised the production and distribution of this fateful plant. Possession wasn’t criminalised until 1997. In 2011, the country passed laws that gave prosecutors the option of not charging for small quantities of cannabis assumed to be for personal use. CANNABIS CULTIVATION IN THE NETHERLANDS

While Dutch authorities allow the sale of recreational cannabis in coffee shops, cultivation and wholesale for that market remains completely illegal. They are however now planning to become the first country in Europe to allow commercial production of adult-use marijuana – under  what they call wietexperiment (weed experiment). In other words a limited number of companies would be allowed to legally grow marijuana to supply coffee shops in the country that would, in turn, sell the products to consumers. These licenses will only be released from early 2020 and the requirements for such companies would be having a business plan in place, responsible for the cultivation, quality control, packaging, transport, etc. The experiment in question is no simply undertaking. CANNABIS MARKET IN GERMANY

The biggest international medical cannabis market outside of North America is Germany and is expected to reach $2.7 billion by 2023.  It is estimated that the German medical cannabis market totaled only $73 million in 2018 but will grow to $2.7 billion by 2023.
